Bol announces simplified board structure

Success in an ever-changing market demands a flexible and innovative organization. At bol we believe we can do better every day and embrace change as the only constant. Even after 25 years, we are still just as committed to serving our customers and partners as their most loved platform.

We thus need to continuously adapt to remain competitive, agile and successful. Consequently, bol will adjust its board structure and reduce the number of board positions from 9 to 6. This involves the discontinuation of the current board roles of Chief Marketing & Sustainability Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer.

Marketing and Logistics will be integrated into the e-commerce department led by Oscar Hundman. Bol, as a B Corp certified organization, is fully committed to its ESG strategy. Therefore, the ESG & Corporate Communications department will be placed under the direct responsibility of the CEO, Margaret Versteden – van Duijn.

The role of Chief Technology Officer will be integrated with that of the Chief Product Officer, creating the new position of Chief Product & Technology Officer. Maite Zubiaurre, current Chief Product Officer, will transition into this consolidated role and thereby also take responsibility for the portfolio of Adrian McPhee, who left bol earlier this year. Furthermore, the role of Chief Advertising Officer will be extended to include responsibility for new business models, under the leadership of Joris Scheepens.

In the context of these organizational changes, Chief Marketing & Sustainability Officer Boukje Taphoorn and Chief Operating Officer Vincent Weijers have decided to pursue new opportunities outside of bol. Margaret Versteden – van Duijn, CEO of bol: “We deeply appreciate the dedication Boukje and Vincent have brought to us in the past years. Their contributions have been invaluable in shaping the success of bol.”

Boukje Taphoorn joined bol in 2018. “Boukje’s outstanding expertise as a top marketeer has played a pivotal role in solidifying bol’s position as the strongest retail brand in the Netherlands. And under her leadership the company secured its B Corp certification in 2023.”

Vincent Weijers joined the organization in the beginning of 2020. “Vincent’s contribution to enhancing bol’s logistics has been crucial, including the remarkable expansion during Covid-19. Under his leadership logistics quality and cost-effectiveness have been greatly improved, making us ready for the future.”

As from July 2024 the executive team of bol will consist of six members: Margaret Versteden – van Duijn (Chief Executive Officer), Gert-Jan Janssen (Chief Financial Officer), Ellen Coopmans (Chief People& Officer), Oscar Hundman (Chief eCommerce Officer), Joris Scheepens (Chief Advertising & New Business Officer) and Maite Zubiaurre (Chief Product & Technology Officer).
