Bol.com launches ‘BoekieClub’ (book club) for children, specially for the Christmas holidays

The platform offers digital children’s books for 1 cent each, for a period of three weeks

In short

Due to the stricter corona measures, many children are at home now rather than at school. To make the lockdown more enjoyable for both children and parents, bol.com is launching the bol.com ‘BoekieClub’, a digital book club for children of all ages. On the platform, children can read ebooks and listen to stories for 1 cent each for three weeks. The BoekieClub initiative is part of our bol.com bollebozen (bright sparks) programme. This is a network of colleagues, partners and societal organisations who contribute to creating equal opportunities for children in the Netherlands and Belgium by encouraging children to enjoy reading and stories, and by helping them develop their digital skills too.

Jori Ebskamp, Sustainability Manager at bol.com: “We received a great deal of positive feedback from children and parents last year about the digital books we made available, almost for free, when we heard that children were at home because of lockdown. We’re now continuing this reading initiative with our BoekieClub book club. The aim remains the same: to encourage children to read. Because reading is not only fun, it also helps prevent language delays”

Bol.com bollebozen (bright sparks)
At bol.com, we want to invest in the employees and entrepreneurs of the future. Because we believe that everyone deserves the chance to get his or her dream job. However, in the Netherlands and Belgium, not everyone has equal opportunities. Inequalities are caused, for example, by language delays and poor digital skills, and these factors reinforce each other. The bol.com bollebozen (bright sparks) programme was launched to help change this. With the bol.com bollebozen programme, we contribute to creating equal opportunities for children by encouraging them to enjoy reading and stories, and by helping them develop their digital skills too. The BoekieClub book club is an initiative of the bol.com bollebozen programme.

The digital books are available until 9 January 2022 via the BoekieClub
